Charged particle TOF calibration for NT with PA by (stopped K+,X+) data : E570

Methods

The procedure is completely identical to that adopted for E549 cycle data. Note that the segment-by-segment NT gain factor, Ci, is here tuned with monochromatic &mu+, by

Ci*PP(sqrt{ph_Top*ph_Bottom}*|vx|) = Esim,

where Esim is the Landau peak position of simulated normalized energy loss distribution of monochromatic &mu+ from

K+stopped -> &mu+&nu,

and PP(sqrt{ph_Top*ph_Bottom}*|vx|) is the Landau peak position of the distribution of the measured quantity,

sqrt{ph_Top*ph_Bottom}*|vx|,

where vx is PDC-measured direction cos x of &mu+, and ph_Top and ph_Bottom are detected pulse height on the Top and Bottom PMT on the NTsegment. In order to select monochromatic &mu+, stopped K and fiducial volume selections are applied, and &mu events are selected by PAPB-measured 1/&beta within (1.06,1.14). On the simulation, detector geometry/Kaon stopping position distribution/Birk saturation (as 0.013 cm/MeV) are taken into account. After Ci is determined in that way, the effective light output, Ei, is defined as

Ci*sqrt{ph_Top*ph_Bottom} = Ei,

regardless of the incident particle.

Cycle 1 results

Result of slewing correction for NT segments obtained by NT-PA TOF analysis. "Order" is the order of the polinomial to fit the 1/sqrt(phu*phr) correlation, and "fit region" is the 1/sqrt(phu*phd) region used for the global fit. Time or 1/&beta resolution are defined as the time-residual or 1/&beta Gaussian &sigma for Kmu2 events selected by PAPB-detected 1/&beta value. Position resolution is defined by the width of the position residual of the f(t) - y(PDC). Here, f(t) is defined as a linear function to fit the y(PDC) VS top-bottom time difference correlation.
